Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to what home-educating parents actually ask us.
Is this built for home education?
Yes — Next Step Learning is built by a home-educating family, for home-educating families, and that's who we're focused on supporting. Some families use it alongside school hours too, and that's fine — the world and the curriculum work the same way either way.
Does it follow the national curriculum?
Every topic we teach is mapped to the national curriculum, organised into four key-stage bands. We're adding content across all four bands on an ongoing basis — see how it works for the teaching method behind it.
How do the four bands work?
Bands are organised by key stage — KS1 through KS4/GCSE-prep — each with its own adventure, mood, and companion. You choose the band that fits your child, and your child sets the pace within it: see the four adventures.
Can I choose which subjects my child studies?
Yes. You switch on the subjects you want your child to learn, per child — you're not locked into a fixed bundle.
What if my child finds school worksheets stressful?
The exercises are built into the adventure rather than presented as standalone worksheets, and mistakes are treated as part of sailing rather than something to feel bad about — see how we look after your family for the fuller detail on the no-comparison, no-pressure rules we hold ourselves to.
Can siblings each have their own space?
Yes — each child has their own account within your family, their own progress, and their own work. Siblings don't see each other's submissions or results.
What does it cost?
Founding-family pricing is still being finalised. See the pricing page to join the launch list — you'll get it first, plus our honest launch letter.
Is my child's data safe?
Children's personal data is encrypted at rest, we don't run advertising or third-party tracking anywhere on the platform, and your child's work is never made public. Full detail on the trust page.
